Copenhagen, September 10 — Agrobiomics, a Danish BioAg company pioneering resilient agriculture, is proud to announce its new status as a Gold Member of the Direct Seeded Rice Consortium (DSRC). The DSRC is a global collaborative initiative of public and private organizations led by the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) aimed at promoting sustainable, efficient, and climate-resilient rice production.
The DSRC addresses critical challenges in rice farming, including:
·      Crop establishment risks due to poor field leveling and early inundation.
·      High seed rates that hinder the adoption of quality seeds.
·      Weed management to reduce risks of higher yield losses and herbicide resistance.
·      Nutrient management inefficiencies, higher micronutrient deficiencies, and greenhouse gas emission - especially in dry direct seeded rice.
·      Water management to reduce the impact on natural resources.
·      Limited access to mechanization and precision agriculture for smallholder farmers.
Agrobiomics brings to the consortium its cutting-edge biomolecules which primer plant stress responses and boost crop resilience, increasing yield under drought and salinity conditions. This innovation directly supports DSRC’s goals of:
·      Improving crop establishment through enhanced germination and early development.
·      Increasing water use efficiency by helping plants regulate osmotic balance.
·      Enhancing crop development through improved NaCl detoxification.
·      Supporting smallholder farmers with scalable, affordable, nature-based solutions.
“Joining DSRC as a Gold Member reflects our commitment to transforming rice farming through science and sustainability," said Ananda Scherner, CEO at Agrobiomics. “According to IRRI, current projections indicate that global rice demand will continue to grow over the next 25 years, driven by population growth in Asia and Africa and by shifts in consumer preferences linked to income growth and urbanization. We believe our technology can play a pivotal role in addressing the agronomic and environmental challenges faced by rice farmers worldwide, promoting a more resilient crop while helping to increase crop yields."
Agrobiomics will collaborate with DSRC partners across Asia and Africa to pilot and scale its technologies in direct seeded rice systems, contributing to the consortium’s mission of ensuring food security while protecting natural resources.
